I was educated at St Martin’s and Goldsmith’s School of Art, in London and in 1976 moved to Dorset where I have lived ever since. The few square miles around my home has provided subject matter for me ever since.
My work is broadly figurative – but imitating nature has never been my aim – more to attempt to express something true about a felt response to what I have seen. Other people seem to appreciate my work and I am proud to say my work is held in many public and private collections.
My palette has been described as ‘distinctive’ and my paintings ‘rural’ and ‘intimate’. I like to think that their immediacy reflects my daily rituals and walks and expresses the humility I feel, surrounded by such wonderful landscape.
Writing about oneself is never easy so I will end with a pleasing comment from a kind designer
‘To see nature interpreted with such love and joy is just incredibly life affirming; I always feel as if I can smell the blossom, feel the wind. In short, Phyllis’s work makes me happy. There you have it. Ditch Prozac, buy Phyllis!’
